Often times we have a guest drive up, get out of the vehicle and just stand at their car door and look around. Silver Creek has a lot going on indeed…The heavy equipment, big trucks, back up alarms, mulch and soil coming off conveyor belts, beverages getting crushed, and of course our Texas Longhorns. It’s a fun place to visit and we are glad to have you out!
This page is a “back stage pass” to some of our processes, which will give you some insight on how we make remarkable soils, mulch, compost and excavate our mined materials.
Stop in and meet our friendly office staff and pick up a brochure or product sample. Our products are all in plain view and easily accessible for samples from the front door of our Retail Sales Office.
Our products are conveniently kept in bins for ease of loading. We load your truck or trailer with a Bobcat or Caterpillar 906. Of course we have larger loaders for bigger trucks and trailers.
Daily, we take in hundreds of yards of clean tree trimmings, vegetation and brush from homeowners, landscapers and tree maintenance professionals. This material is the foundation for our Native Tree Mulch, Compost, and our Soil Mixes. Prior to Silver Creek, these trees and wood waste historically went directly to landfills and were considered a solid waste. Now the trees gets recycled and turned into our remarkable soil, compost and mulch.
Below you will find some photos showing the “tree trimmings” and our 1000 HP Morbark Tub Grinder turning trees into fine mulch.
Here is a stockpile of Native Tree Mulch that has been freshly ground.
You cannot find it any fresher! We grind and make Native Tree Mulch every day, you just cannot get this kind of quality when you buy it by the bag! Have you ever compared our price to buying by the bag? You save at least 50%!
We purposefully grind more mulch than we sell because we utilize it in our composting process. This mulch, along with other ground wood, is mixed and then distributed across our composting area.
In order for the compost to break down, it must remain moist. We are a certified beverage destruction company and we receive trailer loads of soda, beer, wine, liquor, sports drinks, teas, juices and water which are out of date or off spec. Historically, this product was landfilled. We have partnered with bottlers and distributors in this region and now we recycle 100% of this product and its packaging! How do we do it? We hand “decase” each pallet which enables us to recover the maximum amount of recyclables from the packaging.
We separate the different types of plastic, glass and aluminum beverages, we then crush the decased product within our concrete destruction pad. We even recycle the shrink wrap around the pallets! We then recycle the respective crushed containers. The liquid drains down into holding tanks and is pumped and distributed across the composting area. This liquid introduces valuable nutrients to our composting process. This method accelerates the composting process and provides fuel and nutrients to the microbes thriving in this rich environment.
Once the compost is “cooking” we maintain and monitor it daily; when we say “cooking” we mean just that. Look at the steam coming out of the haul truck’s bed! After the compost is ready, we remove it and load it onto our hauling trucks. It is transported to the screening plant. Screening material removes any oversize pieces and insures uniform consistency. The process yields fine rich compost that you use to amend your soil. We also mix and screen it at various ratios with our screened sand or lava sand to create Sandy Soil Mix, Lava Sand Mix and our top seller…Premium Soil Mix.
Here is one of our tandem axle dump trucks getting loaded and heading out with Premium Soil mix.
The Aromatic Cedar Mulch is one of our top-selling mulches, and it smells amazing. This mulch is extremely fresh, and it lasts longer than most other mulches due to the high content of natural cedar resin. This material has great weed prevention properties, and the natural oils act as a natural insect repellant.
Our cedar mulch is superior because we grind fresh green cedar trees pulled out of the soil with rootball intact. We shake the trees vigorously with our grapple which removes all of the dirt and dead limbs.
Our mining operation officially began operations in 1983. We are still one of the top-producing surface mines in this region. Our mine produces the following materials: Select Fill, Non-Expansive Clay Fill, Common Fill Dirt, Cushion Sand and Screened Sand.
Our material meets the toughest specifications and have been used in many of the major construction projects that you see in and surrounding Tarrant County from homesites and heavy highway construction to Barnett Shale well pad sites, municipal, and private projects. Our material, equipment and operators are up to the challenge of the most demanding of jobs!
We excavate our material with three large hydraulic excavators, a Caterpillar 980 front end loader, John Deere 744J loader and a Caterpillar D9R bulldozer.
We hope you enjoyed the virtual tour, thank you for taking the time to get to know us.
We hope to see you soon, come on out to Silver Creek Materials and visit us in person!
"You guys were wonderful. My husband came out with my two boys last Thursday and got the bed of the truck filled with compost. The boys were beside themselves seeing the front end loader dump the dirt. The oldest is still talking about it.
The compost is wonderfully rich and I have filled all my flower beds with it. I swear the plants look happier. I have spread the good word about you to my parents, who are avid gardeners.
Thank you again for your willingness to help and for what you do."

“The winter storms of 2010 caused considerable damage to the trees in Fort Worth. There were broken limbs everywhere and every home had a pile out on the curb… can you imagine how many trees would have gone to the landfill if it weren’t for Silver Creek Materials?”

“What do ya’ll do with all that beer?”
"I bought a yard of Premium Soil Mix, and it filled my pick-up truck’s bed for 20 bucks! That same amount of material would have cost me $100.00 at Lowe's or Home Depot when buying by the bag."

"I got a yard of the premium soil mix a few months ago for a vegetable garden and it’s doing great! I look forward to the same results with my flower garden."
“Thanks so much for the quick and courteous responses. The loads have just been dropped off and I'm off to work on the beds! Pleasure doing business with you, I will keep in touch for all of my landscape needs.”
